A report by Microsoft has discovered that computers running Windows 7 or Vista are more likely to be infected by malware than those running Windows XP.

Allowing for the differing number of computers using each software, Windows XP computers had an infection rate of 2.42% compared to Vista’s 3.24% or Windows 7’s 2.59%. Microsoft has attributed the security issues to the numbers of active users browsing the internet on more modern machines, as well as a threat from ‘Rotbrow’, a malware targeting internet browsers.

Despite these statistics, XP remains the most insecure operating system as it is open to threats from all areas of online threats.
