The Information Security Breaches Survey 2014 has shown that the number of IT security breaches in UK businesses has decreased in the past year yet despite this the cost and scale has almost doubled.

60% of small businesses have reported a breach in the past year, a 4% decrease from the previous year, yet the worst costs are between £65,000 and £115,000. Despite the decrease in attacks, the consequences are becoming worse for those who are affected. Large businesses have seen a 5% decrease in attacks, yet their losses can be up to £1.2 million.

Businesses lacking proper IT security measures are at a huge disadvantage as they are more likely to be involved in an attack due to a lack of protection and security knowledge, leading to a greater financial loss.
