Bitdefender and Kaspersky have come out on top when the independent test lab, AV-Test, compared the antivirus products on Windows 8/8.1. 25 consumer and 9 business products were evaluated. The software was judged on protection, usability (which in this case refers to the number of false negatives) and performance.
In the non-commercial market, both Bitdefender and Kaspersky achieved perfect scores in all categories, blocking 100% of malware with no affect on computer function. Avira and F-Secure also attained high marks, with complete protection from malware.
AhnLab v3 and Kingsoft received the worst overall scores however only Microsoft Windows Defender scored a zero in Protection, with higher marks in other categories.
