WhatsApp is the victim to a new kind of spam that downloads malware into mobile phones.
A spam message is being used to download malware on smartphones, the message shows a fake invitation to download the voice calling feature on WhatsApp. The message is already viral and is leveraging the fact that WhatsApp had recently pushed an update for a few subscribers that allowed voice calling via the application. The message tried to mimic this move and was successful in downloading malware in the name of the much anticipated voice-calling feature.
The invitation comes with a link www.WhatsappCalling.com that takes you to a website where a short survey is conducted, and once that survey concludes the website will ask the user to download various applications that can spread malware on the phone.
To spread the message the website will prompt the user to send the invite to a few friends so that the talking feature can be initiated. Users are advised to refrain from clicking on such links unless WhatsApp announces the feature officially.
