Compromised passwords are still the number one cause of security breaches in business.
Verizon’s latest investigation into the causes of data breach have revealed that despite the advances in malware and cyber security, the most common way for network intruders to access sensitive information is through the use of stolen login credentials.
Two out of three breaches were the result of weak or compromised passwords, whether these were stolen by malware or physically taken. Businesses often focus their security protection on protecting from outside attacks while ignoring the site traffic or employees that abuse their privileges. Similarly, many businesses use easily remembered passwords that are simple to crack. This creates a good argument for businesses to use two-factor authentication to keep an extra layer of security around their systems.
