The list of over 2000 accounts was published on Thursday, allowing access to online accounts, Clubcard vouchers and personal details. It is believed that the hackers used automated tools to create the data, however, it is currently unknown who is behind the attack. A Tesco statement said, “We take the security of our customers’ data extremely seriously and are urgently investigating these claims”. All customers who may have been affected have been contacted.
Experts are urging users to check other accounts that use the same password as their Tesco account and to change their passwords if the same one is used for multiple sites. Variation in passwords is vital to keeping personal information secure.
