Smarter IT is responsive and always-on
Edmond de Rothschild was reviewing its communication and file infrastructure. Zhero had proven to be a highly trusted partner for the Group with a long-lasting relationship in excess of seven years and therefore was consulted to assist with the IT architecture and design. Edmond de Rothschild partnered with Zhero to make its IT smarter.
The Edmond de Rothschild Group has private banking, equity and corporate finance as its core business. A secondary branch of the group is Asset Management with expertise in corporate and infrastructure debt, quantitative management and socially responsible investment. Founded in 1953 and headquartered in Geneva, the Edmond de Rothschild Group operates in 14 countries. Edmond de Rothschild, London, offers core and secondary bespoke solutions to private clients and entrepreneurs.
CHALLENGE
Edmond de Rothschild had antiquated mail exchange and file servers operating on old Microsoft operating systems. Their servers were located on-site adding to vulnerabilities in email and data security, adequate backup, and preventative failover.
SOLUTION
Zhero implemented the most up-to-date multi-data centre and high-availability mail and file system. This was achieved over a secure, encrypted network. Applying a Distributed File System meant that switching between primary and secondary locations was enabled. Data was successfully distributed to two data centre locations.
RESULT
Edmond de Rothschild has updated and secured applications. Mail exchange and file storage are replicated across multiple servers at different access points.
THE IT CHALLENGE
The Group’s mail server was fast approaching its expiry date. Typically, in the life cycle of most servers and operating systems, mainstream support in terms of security and feature updates is only provided for 5 years. Support in the subsequent 5 years is limited to security updates only. Thereafter, vulnerabilities remain unpatched meaning that security risks increase exponentially.
Edmond de Rothschild’s server was also particularly susceptible to failure since there was no rapid failover to a remote private location. Edmond de Rothschild turned to Zero for a smarter IT solution.
WHAT ZHERO DID
Part of the Distributed File System (DFS) also involved file replication. Zhero did not use Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) which is built into the Microsoft server operating system. Instead, Zhero used PeerSync, an industry standard for file replication and synchronization, ideal for high-volume server transactions over networks using LAN and WAN links. Simply put, any changes to data or files made on the primary server are replicated on the second. PeerSync offered superior features over Microsoft’s internal DFSR.
Zhero also implemented 24/7 monitoring and automated security management, encrypted cloud backups, and server imaging as part of the ongoing IT maintenance.
HOW ZHERO HELPED
With respect to their file hosting, Edmond de Rothschild is accessible across multiple locations with access to the most up-to-date file version.
Zhero also architected and designed multi-location internet failover to ensure accessibility at all times. Zhero provided Edmond de Rothschild with secure and smarter IT that was always on, every second of every day.
