Yahoo announces plans to encrypt all products
Written by

Yahoo’s new chief information security officer, Alex Stamos, has announced plans to encrypt Yahoo products to keep users’ information away from prying eyes.

Previously Yahoo has allowed the Government to monitor its customers as there was little encryption protecting them. Stamos has stated that ‘Preventing surveillance of millions of people at a time is totally within our ability.’ The plans include a fix to the many problems with Yahoo Messenger, which remains unencrypted after a decade of exposure. A new, secure version will be released in the coming months. Similarly, email access and traffic is now under a secure HTTPS server, with the new standards extending to other Yahoo services later in the year.
