LogMeIn removes free service overnight

Users of the remote computer access software, LogMeIn, will be confronted with the news that the service will no longer be free after an announcement appeared overnight. Users will be prompted to choose an upgrade upon their next LogIn, or stop using the product after a seven day grace period.

Antivirus Products compared by independent test lab

Bitdefender and Kaspersky have come out on top when the independent test lab, AV-Test, compared the antivirus products on Windows 8/8.1. 25 consumer and 9 business products were evaluated. The software was judged on protection, usability (which in this case refers to the number of false negatives) and performance.

Facebook rewards Web Researcher after vulnerability find

Facebook has awarded $33,500 to a Brazilian web security researcher after he discovered a serious weakness in the site that could have allowed hackers into the system.

The issue, known as an XML external entity vulnerability is explained by Computer engineer Reginald Silva in his blog. ‘They allow you to read any files on the filesystem, make arbitrary network connections,’ and could even be susceptible to hacking the email recovery system.
